Welcome to Cedar Island, North Carolina
I'd love to introduce you to my little cottage on Cedar Island, North Carolina.
Why DragonFly Inn? In the spring and summer the mosquitos come out in full force, but so do the dragonflies! I'm an avid gardener and Gilmore Girls fan, so it fits to name my home-away-from-home with a homage to both.
With a queen bedroom, full-sized bed in the spare bedroom, and a twin day bed with twin trundle in the loft upstairs, the cottage will sleep 6. There is a full bathroom downtsairs, a half-bath upstairs, and an absolutely delightful outdoor shower, perfect for when you come in from the beach or just want a change of pace.
There is a fully equipped kitchen with granite countertops and stainless steel appliances. A Keurig coffee maker is available and I do my best to keep K-cups in stock, but feel free to bring your own too. There are plenty of pots, pans, utensils, plates, bowls, glasses, wine glasses, and mason jars, so you'll feel right at home and don't need to bring anything. I have a small outdoor propane grill that you are welcome to use - please just clean it and make sure to turn the propane off when you're done!
My favorite part? The screened-in porch with a full-size hanging bed swing that looks out over the water views of the Pamlico Sound and North Bay. Many nights I've watched the sun set while enjoying a glass of wine and listening to the sounds of nature. Some of my guests report sleeping on the porch swing all night!
It's an adorably quaint cottage and indoor seating is limited. Have a group with you? There is a table downstairs that seats 6 - light some citronella candles and apply bug spray, then enjoy your dinner outdoors!
Close access to sandy beaches and a public boat ramp not 100 yards away from the house! The Island is great for fishing, boating, kayaking and paddleboarding. Horseback riding is offered at the local Cedar Island Ranch. Day trips are easy to Cape Lookout National Seashore, Harker's Island, Beaufort, Atlantic Beach, Emerald Isle, and Ocracoke. Check individual websites for activitie and hours of serivce. The Cedar Island Ferry to Ocracoke is a short walk from the cottage and such a fun day trip for groups, families, or couples.
I've left two small kayaks and one full-size kayak (I have kids!) for your use, as well as fishing rods and tackle.
Looking for a place to relax and recharge? No hustle and bustle? This is it. The WiFi is slow, the nature sounds are high, and the vibe is very "I'm on Island time".
What My Guests Think...
"Amazing place. Was great for brining our little one to the beach for the first time. Quiet peaceful. Clean rooms the loft upstairs has amazing views. The swinging bed on the porch is the perfect spot to watch the sunset across the sound. We will be back. Thank you."

"What a lovely house! We had a fabulous time enjoying the beach nearby, watching bird and frogs on the screened in porch, and loving the quiet sounds of the ocean. This was a great vacation, the kids loved the sound and we had a blast exploring Cedar Island, still untouched by a lot of commercial development and hopefully staying that way!"

"Great little place! Very close to the private beach, family walked there in 6 min. Had coffee on the shore for sunrise. We only stayed 2 nights and could have done weeks. Brought all our own food- perfect location if you’re not looking to go out to restaurants. First host that actually responded to messages promptly! Thank you!"

"This was the perfect cottage for unwinding and relaxing. It’s a lovely location offering serene walks on the beach at sunrise and sunset. The screened in porch and bed swing provided the perfect setting for morning coffee and evening chats."

I'm so glad I can share my little slice of paradise with you! While on Cedar Island I enjoy paddleboarding or kayaking (and spotting jellyfish, rays, fish, and birds), walking the beach to look for the wild cows, visiting the general store, and taking the ferry to Ocracoke. The quiet island is perfect for catching up on my reading, usually while lounging on the swinging bed on the screened in porch, or sipping a glass of wine while watching the sunset on the beach. I've heard the sunrise is pretty too, but I am not an early bird!
